The Warren

An apartment building on the corner of Riverside and Browne in Spokane, WA, Edlen and Co was seeking a partner who could name and brand their new building. With weekly meetings, I collaborated with the client to create, a unified language of design for all to use while working on the project. Required for this project was extensive market research, profiling development, naming, and design of the brand, website messaging, collateral, and an organic social media launch.

History and lifestyle were key in developing this brand. In developing the name for the building, it needed to be something that could tie to the history of Spokane, as well as tie back to nature. Upon research, I came upon the word Warren which is defined as a network of interconnecting rabbit burrows. This name aligned perfectly with the juxtaposition of Spokane city history and the nature that surrounds it. Underneath the city is a series of tunnels that connect several buildings in downtown creating the symbolism that residents can get out and explore the city, but have their escape in their burrows.

Inspired by the swift movement of a rabbit, this concept demonstrates the active lifestyle that our tenants have. For the mark, the rabbit is seen jumping through a circle that can be seen as a burrow. It also has a soft and natural look to it, which can be seen in the ruffles on the neck of the rabbit. The type is arched to mimic the movement of a jumping rabbit, and has slight serifs on it to further help emphasize the ruffles seen on the rabbit.
